2024: A Year in Review
As 2024 draws to a close, we at the Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) wanted to take the time to reflect on our accomplishments this year. This included but was not limited to the following:
- Announcing the grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for our State Legislative Effectiveness Initiative.
- Announcing the recipients of our 2024-2025 small grant awards.
- Introducing new members of our Center Affiliate teams, including Andrew Ballard, Jaclyn Kaslovsky, Michael Kistner, Emily Cottle Ommundsen, and Arjun Vishwanath.
- Introducing two new post-doctoral fellows for the 2024-2025 Academic Year: Amy Meli and Connor Halloran Phillips.
- Introducing new members of our Board of Advisors: Brody Mullins, Daniel Stid, and Danielle Thomsen.
- Hosting our 6th Annual Research Conference, which included recognizing the recipients of our Annual Best Publication on Effective Lawmaking award.
- Presenting our latest entries in our Conversations with Lawmakers series with interviews with U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Don Bacon, and Mark Takano, and West Virginia House Speaker Roger Hanshaw.
- Hosting the presentation “Effective Lawmaking in Virginia: Past, Present, and Future” as part of the Batten Hour series.
- Presenting our work to newly-elected members of the Michigan State Legislature as part of Michigan State University’s Legislative Leadership Program.
- Presenting our work at the conference of the Patterns of Legislative Effectiveness (POLE) Project.
- Presenting our work at a panel at the annual American Political Science Association (APSA) conference.
- Presenting our work at a webinar for the Regional Reporters Association.
- Presenting our work to the LEGIS Congressional Fellowship program at the Brookings Institution.
- Generating and sharing new insights through the CEL Working Paper Series.
