Call for 2022-2023 Small Grant Awards

The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) welcomes applications for grants to fund research consistent with the mission of the Center. The Center advances the generation, communication, and use of new knowledge about the effectiveness of individual lawmakers and U.S. legislative institutions. The research receiving support must focus on effective lawmaking and must be designed to make an original scholarly contribution, generating and communicating new knowledge. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $2,500 but may extend outside of this range as appropriate. All laws and university regulations will be followed in the distribution of funds. Grant proposals should include:
(1) A short (three-page) description of the research to be conducted with (a) project title, (b) brief abstract (under 150 words), and (c) proposal details (including goals, methods, timeline, potential results, importance, relevance to CEL goals, and distribution strategy);
(2) a one-page budget and budget justification;
(3) a short CV (not to exceed three pages);
(4) ABD doctoral students are eligible but must have their dissertation advisors submit a letter of reference under a separate cover. Collaborative research is welcome, although only the corresponding principal investigator needs to submit the (single) proposal.

Selected grant recipients will need to submit an official overhead waiver letter (if institutional entity will be receiving the funds, the appropriate representative must stipulate in writing that no overhead will be charged against the grant). Recipients also agree to acknowledge the support given by the Center for Effective Lawmaking whenever material is published or presented, and to notify the Center of resulting publications.
