Meet our Faculty Affiliate: Andrew Pennock
The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) is excited to introduce one of our newest faculty affiliates, Andrew Pennock. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia (UVA). While at UVA, Professor Pennock has leveraged his relationship with Virginia state legislators to establish Batten as an influential force for policy development in the state. He serves in a number of capacities at UVA including as an elected member on the Executive Council of the Faculty Senate and Academic Affairs Committee. Prior to UVA, Pennock was Director of Graduate Studies and Director of the Applied Social, Economic, and Regulator Analysis Group at Brown University. He also has experience teaching at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Professor Pennock’s work outside of teaching is focused on government consulting and executive education. Recently he partnered with the Darden School of Business at UVA to provide DEI progam implementation in Oklahoma school districts. Pennock has also worked with elected officials from across the U.S. to develop leadership across partisan divides. Overall, his work with developing legislators’ leadership is essential to them being effective lawmakers. He was awarded the 2023-2024 Fulbright Scholar Award from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Award to teach at the IEDC Bled School of Management in Slovenia. He holds both a M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill and a B.A. in both Political Science and Mathematics from Clemson University.
The CEL is proud to have Professor Pennock on our team and look forward to his future contributions to the field of effective lawmaking.
