Meet our Faculty Affiliate: Ju Yeon (Julia) Park 

The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) is excited to introduce Ju Yeon (Julia) Park as one of our newest Faculty Affiliates. Professor Park is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at Ohio State University. Previously, she has served as an Assistant Professor of Government at the University of Essex in Colchester, UK, and received her doctoral degree in Politics from New York University in New York, NY. Professor Park has also completed postdoctoral research at both the University of Pittsburgh and Washington University.  

Broadly, Professor Park’s research is focused on understanding the styles of a politician’s representational style under pressure from the American political system, and how these stylistic choices have consequences. Specifically, she has investigated when politicians choose to grandstand and how political grandstanding can lead to being rewarded electorally. She has had work published in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Electoral Studies, and The Journal of Legislative Studies. In 2022, she and her co-authors were the recipients of the CQ Press Award in the American Political Science Association Legislative Studies Section for their publication “How Are Politicians Informed? Witnesses and Information Provision in Congress.” Her recent publication at the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, “Electoral rewards for political grandstanding,” used research from CEL co-directors Craig Volden and Alan Wiseman by showing how PAC donors reward legislators’ effective law-making practices.

The CEL is looking forward to future collaborations with Professor Park as she takes on this new role.
